Last night I slept like a rock, it was amazing. I went to bed around 12:30 because Chris was staying up late writing a paper and I was just staying up with him doing some cross-stitching, yes I am young and I love to cross-stitch! I am not ashamed! So eventually I got too tired to wait up for him anymore and I went to bed. I must have fallen asleep like a normal person, because I was exhausted and I don't remember laying there much at all. Then I didn't wake up until 5am! That was awesome! I'm used to waking up several times a night for Elijah, but usually I wake up at intervals just to look at the clock and find out I definitely shouldn't be awake... So anyway I got up to feed Elijah at 5 and then he went right back down to sleep as usual and this time is even crazier... This time I slept until 9am! Completely conked, I don't even remember Chris kissing me goodbye when he left for school in the morning, I have no idea if he did or not I was so out of it. And I feel great this morning, I am just really hoping the sun comes out soon because cloudy days tend to make me sluggish...
We had our trip to Wisconsin Dells this weekend, it was lots of fun. We left on Friday and met up with Alex and Krista and had a picnic lunch. It was 85 and sunny on Friday so we couldn't have asked for better weather. Then we walked around the town and saw all the tourist shops and stuff. I found some Minnetonka sandals that were the most comfortable shoes I have ever had on my feet and I wanted them so bad, but they were out of my price range :-( Then we headed back to the hotel and bummed around and did some swimming and called it a night. Since Alex works in a hotel restaurant in Minneapolis, he gets really good discounts at certain hotels around the world, including the Hilton, which is where we got to stay :-) It was a very nice hotel, something we would not have been able to afford without the discount, so thanks Alex and Krista! Saturday we woke up and it was cold and raining, big slap in the face compared to sunny and 85 the day before, so it was a good thing that Saturday was waterpark day! Our hotel gave us a discount at one of the resort waterparks, so we went there and the place has 3 different indoor waterparks! Pretty crazy. The first time we went Alex and Krista went before us and we never could find them there so Chris and I each went on 1 or 2 rides since we had to hold Elijah the whole time. Elijah played in the kiddie area and at first he was a little overwhelmed with all the people running around, especially the kids, but he caught on real quick and ended up having a lot of fun. By the time we decided to leave, he was totally conked out in Chris' arms. So we left and had some dinner and then went back to the waterpark with Alex and Krista this time and then we took turns watching the babe so that everyone could go on some rides, it was lots of fun :-) Sunday we just went to an outlet mall for a while (found some cute sunglasses for Elijah) and then out for lunch and then on our way home. It was so nice to get away for a while and it was a pretty cheap vacation considering all the discounts we got. Someday when we have a little more money though I would love to go back and do so much more, I feel like there is a ton of stuff we missed out on. Plus next time we are bringing a babysitter!
So the craziest thing to happen on the trip was probably the drive home. The weather was gross, but nothing too bad, but as we are driving we start to notice that the sky to our right is seriously dark and creepy, while the sky to our left is just plain cloudy. It got to a point where we realized maybe we should turn on the radio and see what's going on. So we turn on the radio and there is a guy talking about tornado warning in Grant County, about to be above the city of Lancaster. And we're thinking, "ok, we have no idea where we are right now..." Then we pass a sign saying "Grant County" and we're thinking, "hmm, well at least we aren't in Lancaster..." Then we pass an exit sign for Lancaster and we're thinking "hmm, that's probably not good." And at this point it is so windy that Chris is having trouble keeping the car straight and the people on the radio are warning everyone to seek shelter and telling people not to try to outrun the tornado and it was at this point that I realized how much being a mom changes your perspective. A few years ago I would have been totally stoked to be right next to a tornado, I would have considered driving after it, the dummy that I am. It was all about thrills and that would have just been too cool if we actually saw the tornado that close to us. Instead of this reaction I immediately start contemplating our options to either keep driving and pray that we outrun it or pull over and get out of the car, grab Elijah, and run into a ditch and wait it out. There was no way I was going to let any force of nature harm my son. Fortunately as we kept driving we could see that we were approaching calmer looking skies so we kept going and listening to the radio counting down the minutes until the tornado would be right above the city. It was crazy...
So enough of that doom and gloom, let's see what's new with Elijah. Well he has started to catch on to the sign for "more." We've been doing it during mealtimes and he occasionally will do it back when he runs out of food. Sometimes though we will sit him down and before he even has any food he will do it, so I'm pretty sure he gets that it means he's going to get more to eat :-P Also, he has officially pulled himself up to standing a few times now. He can do it in his crib now no problem because the railing is easy to grasp. He's having trouble with couches and such since they are so cushy. But he knows how to do it, that's for sure. It's amazing to see how quickly he has been picking up on stuff lately. Such a smart little guy I have :-P
Well he just went down for a nap, so I'm going to take advantage of that and go get ready for the day. Ciao!

Spring... finally...
Spring is finally here and I am super excited about it :-) Of course today it is kind of rainy and gloomy, which is why I am inside on the computer. But it is still warm enough to wear a t-shirt and sandals and that is FANTASTIC!
Chris and I have been taking advantage of this beautiful weather, we raked the yard and picked up all the nasty giant dog poop that accumulated over the winter and we planted a garden with cucumbers, green beans, peas, sugar snap peas, romaine lettuce, and some other random stuff. I am SO excited about it! I have wanted to grow my own vegetables for so long and it is so great to have access to a yard to put them in. Now if we could only get rid of the monster that lives in the backyard... a.k.a. Buddy, the giant moose of a dog with no brain... But then again, I don't own the place so my opinion doesn't really matter too much. I can't wait until Chris and I have our own place! That dream is still a ways away I am afraid... We also took our first picnic of the season the other day over by Lake McBride for you Iowans who know where that is. Beautiful place considering it's one of the few lakes in the whole state... :-P Ok so there are more than a few, but really, you can't even compare to the 10,000 in MN.
So here's what's new with Elijah... He is finally crawling! This happened just in the last couple weeks. He's moving pretty slow and he still gets a little bit frustrated, but he can totally get all over the place if he wants to. And he seems to be getting better at it everyday so pretty soon we won't even be able to keep track of him. He's still standing up leaning against things or holding onto someone's hands, but he isn't standing on his own yet. He's trying to pull himself up, but can only make it to his knees... He's a heavy guy! He also said "mama" a couple weeks back and he said it all day and the next day, but then he decided that wasn't fun so he hasn't said it since. He's been saying "dada" forever. He hasn't said anything else yet, just babble. He almost looked like he wanted to wave back at someone at church today but he just kind of held his hand up in the air and stared... Which is pretty much what he does all the time. He's started sticking his tongue out all the time, it's really cute :-P One behavior I'm not too thrilled about is that when he wakes up now, he will sit up in his crib instead of just laying there like he did before. It is cute sometimes after naps he will just sit up and play, but in the middle of the night he sits up and screams until somebody gets him... And since he makes himself sit up, he totally wakes up and won't lay back down and go back to sleep like he normally would if we just ignored him... Silly kid.
I think that's about all that's new, he is becoming more and more fun every day, I just love the little guy :-)

Update
So Chris left today to go to drill for the weekend and I missed him the second he walked out the door. I thought for sure I'd be sick of him by now, but I just can't help but the love the guy! :-P I tell ya, it is great being married to your best friend :-) I know, mushy, mushy, yeah, yeah...
So things have been going pretty well lately. Elijah is growing like crazy. He's really starting to get taller and I can see that he's thinning out a lot while he's stretching out. It's so crazy how fast the time has gone by. When I'm holding him in my arms he feels like this huge kid, not a little baby... He's wearing size 2T shirts now. Yeah, and he's 8 months old. Granted they are a little bit big, but the 12 month shirts are too small and I don't have anything in between. What a little chunker :-)
He is sooo close to crawling, he can taste it! He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth and he scoots backwards a lot. But to go forward, he's still stuck on the army crawl with belly on the floor, but he is getting better everyday. Of course, he's going through kind of a stinker-butt phase right now and wants me to hold him all the time, so we aren't getting too far. Today was a really rough day for him, he was just really fussy all day. I'm not sure if it was gas, teething, growing pains, or something else altogether. The kid's got some troubles. But really, I can't complain, he is such a good baby. Sure, he has his moments, but all around he's very peaceful and joyful which is a HUGE blessing for us.
I'm having a hard time getting him to eat baby food. He freaks out if I try to put a spoon anywhere near his mouth. He does love finger food, but all he really ever has is cheerios and peas. I'm not creative enough to come up with good finger foods and he isn't excited about it enough to really eat more than a few pieces. It's frustrating me a little bit because I would like to get him eating real food regularly so that it will be easy to wean him when the time comes. I do NOT want to breastfeed forever. I think breastfeeding is fantastic, but it definitely has a limit.
So that's what's new with Elijah... As for me everything is about the same. I stay home and take care of the baby of course. I'm anxious for better weather so we can start getting outside more. Yesterday it was beautiful so Chris and I brought Elijah outside and they sat in the yard while I raked - even got some blisters on my hands :-) But then today it was nasty out, but tomorrow is supposed to be nice again so maybe we will do something outside tomorrow. I am SO excited for summer to come!

He was in the application process for the police department but he just got the "thanks, but no thanks" letter from them the other day, so that is a no-go. We were praying about it really hard, so we know now that it wasn't what God wanted for him and we are just thankful that we got an answer from them and didn't have to wait any longer without knowing. So now he is starting to think about other jobs. It's going to be difficult since he's going to school full time and he has to leave the whole month of June for sniper school. But we are just praying that God will show us where to go and what to do. He knows better than we do :-)
